Abstract
A mechanism uses accelerometer and focus information to reduce the effect of translational handshake on the still or video image recorded by a device such as a camera. The device is for acquiring still or video image data and has an image sensor and lens, a mechanism for compensating for tilt, a mechanism to measure tilt, an accelerometer for measuring the translational e.g. lateral motion of the device, and a focusing mechanism to focus the image on the image sensor. The amount of tilt compensated for by the tilt compensation mechanism is equal to the apparent tilt caused by the translational motion of the device plus the tilt of the device.
