Abstract

A press plate for a filter press comprises an insert member (11) a respective membrane (12) for application to each face of the said insert member, and a respective flange member (13) for location at the outer face of each membrane, the parts being assembled together by means 14a to provide a rigid press plate. The membranes (12) have drainage formations thereon or are recessed to receive a drainage element 15 and means (30-32) may be provided for introducing air to the insert member/membrane interface to effect inflation of the membrane for cake compaction and/or cake release purposes. A slurry inlet (27) is disclosed which avoids the need for cloth locking unions and the like. A filter cloth overlies the drainage formations, the edges of the cloth being clamped between the membrane and the flange. <IMAGE>
