Abstract

The automatic adjuster comprises a strut (29) connected to one brake shoe (13) and having a ratchet on one end portion (34) that engages with a pawl (23) carried on the other brake shoe (12), the end portion (34) being forked to provide two arms (35) and (36) and the ratchet teeth being arranged in two parallel sets, one on each arm, with the teeth staggered in pitch between the two arms. Thus, engagement of the pawl alternately with teeth of one ratchet set and the other, provides step by step adjustment of a closer pitch than the set pitch of the ratchet teeth. <IMAGE>
