Abstract

In order to assist in the suppression of sparks which tend to be generated between the commutator and brushes of an electric motor, an annular resilient element 5 is fitted over the commutator sections 3. The element consists of a disc-like annulus and is formed by combining an electrically conductive material or a highly dielectric material with an elastomeric material. In examples the element consists of silicone rubber filled with either carbon or barium titanate. <IMAGE>
