Abstract

A flowing mixture containing liquid and gas components is divided into a plurality of sub-flows by introducing the mixture into a separation tank 11 having a lower liquid 16 space and an upper gas space 17 in which there are symmetrically arranged upwardly extending elongate duct portions 19 respectively communicating with outlets for the sub-flows. Each elongate duct portion has an inlet 22 for gas at its upper end and an inlet 23 for liquid at its lower end. Means are provided within the tank for promoting the division of the inlet flow into its liquid and gas components and in two of the embodiments and in two of the embodiments described take the form of a transverse wall at the end of an inlet stub pipe. In a third embodiment the means comprises a central inlet stub pipe termianting below the liquid surface. All the embodiments are symmetrically arranged. <IMAGE>
