Abstract
This invention relates to a process and apparatus for continuous high speed electrodeposition on a moving substrate. If a substrate having a significant ohmic resistance is passed in front of a series of anodes, an imbalance is observed in the current distribution. The process and apparatus of the invention involve providing each group of anodes 2 with a separate continuous current generator 4, 8, and either regulating the current intensity or subjecting the generators to self-regulation so that a current of substantially the same intensity is supplied by a separate generator 4, 8 to each group of anodes 2 facing the same length of substrate. In a preferred embodiment, self- regulation is affected by connecting the secondary winding 6 of a supply transformer 6,7 to a rectifier 5 in a generator 4, 8, the primary winding 7 of the transformer 6,7 being connecting to the primary windings 7 of the other transformers 6,7 supplying the other generators 4,8. Application to the electrolytic tin- plating at high speed of copper wires of small diameter. <IMAGE>
