Abstract
199,658. Stott, J. H. Oct. 17, 1922. Laminar springs.-A laminated spring is provided with a compound master-plate comprising two or more plates 1 - - 3, Figs. 1 and 2, extending the full length of the spring and connected together at their extremities to offer combined resistance to torsion, rebound beyond the unloaded position, and side motion by a stirrup link 4 pivotally connected to a sprung or unsprung part by a single anchor pin. The surface of the link 4 in contact with the underside of the plate 3 is flat and of sufficient length to act as a guide without jamming against the plate 3. In a modification shown in Fig. 3, suitable for light vehicles, the stirrup link is replaced by a threeholed link the centre hole of which receives the anchor pin. The two outer holes are preferably elongated to permit the necessary relative movement between the plates, but if these holes are not elongated, the plates are arranged barely to touch each other in the rebound position. When only two plates are used, they are connected to the outer holes, the centre hole receiving the anchor pin as before. In a further modification shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the ends of the plates, preferably two, are carried on one anchor pin, the plate 1 'being definitely anchored to the pin while the plate 2 has elongated eyes engaging the pin. To give greater flexibility to the overhanging portion, the plates 1, 2 may cut away in tapering fashion as shown respectively in full and dotted lines in Fig. 5. Specification 188,428 is referred to.
