Abstract

199,432. Berry, G. W. Feb. 27, 1922. Seaming.-A cover is double seamed to an unflanged body, while rotating, by a manually operated device. The cover o and body o<2> are clamped against a rotating chuck b, rollers f and d engaging the edge o<1> of the cover and the body respectively. The lever i is then moved from the broken to the full line position, Fig. 2, thus moving the roller f axially to flange the cover and body at o<3>, Fig. 4. The movement of the handle is then reversed and this, owing to the engagement of a trigger j, causes the whole support c to turn about its pivot c<1> thus withdrawing the rollers f, d and bringing seaming and flattening rollers g, h into action successively. At the end of this operation a fixed projection c<3> releases the trigger and a spring e<3> returns the lever i and roller f to their original positions.
