Abstract

Vehicle-window opening and closing apparatus. -In vehicle-window operating-mechanism of the type in which an arm G is pivoted at one end to the window upright and engages at its other end the lower edge of the window C, the intermediate means for actuating the swinging control arm includes two elements, one of which is mounted on the arm and the other of which is operated by a handle, the pair of members coacting to lock the arm positively against movement in any position of adjustment. A nut H is swivelled on the arm G near its pivoted end and is engaged by the threaded portion I<1> of the stem I, which is rotated by a handle M<1> through a pair of pinions L<1>. The upper end of the stem is journaled in a cylindrical mounting J swivelled on a crosspiece on the door. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, the cylindrical mounting is secured rigidly to the door, and the screw-threaded stem Q is connected through a universal joint R to a shaft S journaled in the mounting and driven through the gears O<1> by the shaft T. The lower end of the arm Q engages a nut Z swivelled on a pivot U carried by a plate Y, mounted on the same pivot as the lifter arm, to which it is connected by a screw X through a hole W. To counterbalance the window member C, an arm E, pivoted at one end upon the upright and bearing upwardly upon the lower edge of the glass at its other extremity, is provided.
