Take-up motions.- In regulators of the type wherein the fabric is tensioned by means of a weight c', the actuating lever h connected to the pitman i of the " lifting device " actuates the fabric roller shaft a through a pawl k engaging a ratchet wheel g fixed to a bevel wheel f geared to a bevel wheel e, which is geared to a bevel wheel b fixed to the shaft a. Back motion of the ratchet wheel g is prevented by a pawl n and the pivot d of the wheel e is carried by a lever c loosely mounted on the shaft a and carrying the fabric-tensioning weight c<1>. An obturating member m is rigidly connected by a bar l to the lever c so as to cover the teeth of the ratchet wheel g to a varying extent and thus vary the amount of rotation of this wheel and consequently the take-up according to the position of the lever c. In a modification, the effective length of the actuating-lever is varied, by means of a rod connected to the weighted lever and to an extension of the pitman, so as to displace a pin carried by the pitman in a slot in the actuating lever.
