Abstract
194,115. Roberts, M. V., and Light Production Co., Ltd. Feb. 16, 1922. Laminar springs.-A shackle bolt A for vehicle spring, or a journal or like member adapted to oscillate in a bearing, is provided on its surface with longitudinally extending spiral grooves E containing absorbent material saturated with lubricant, one or each end B of the bolt being screw-threaded and reduced in diameter to form a shoulder into the surface of which the ends of the grooves open so that the absorbent material can be withdrawn after removal of a, nut D and washer C without disturbing the bolt A in its bearing. Preferably, the absorbent material is a wick F surrounding a central wire, and the lubricant is graphite and oil. One end of the bolt may have an integral or fitted-on head which is formed with a flat to engage a lug on the shackle to prevent the bolt from turning therein. The invention is also applicable to front-axle stub pins, cam shafts for brakes, and pins for spring forks of motorcycles.
