Abstract

Mountings; field carriages.-Consists in applying to guns a known form of levelling-device comprising relatively rotatable wedge - shaped disks having inclined faces held together by a clamping-bolt with a hemispherical head, and in modifying the device so that the centre of the hemispherical head is in line with the inclined meeting faces of the disks. The invention is shown applied to levelling a Colt gun, but may be applied generally to field or naval guns. Fig. 1 shows the training-pivot a<5 >of the gun supported on two disks a, b which are rotatable with respect to one another on inclined meeting faces a<1>, b<1> by means of handles a<4>, b<4>. The parts are retained, and if necessary clamped, together by means of a bolt e having a hemispherical head f and a spring-controlled clamping-nut e<3>, and a pin f<1> is provided on the head f to engage a groove in a socket d formed in the disk a.
