Bottles, washing. - Machines of the kind in which the bottles are placed on brushes radiating from a rotating vertical bead are modified as follows : (1) The bearing for each brush spindle is mounted on an adjusting - screw o at the outer end and slides vertically in guides p at the inner end, so that the weight of the bearing presses the friction roller q against the driving-disk d. By adjusting the screws, the brushes are positioned for treating bottles of varying sizes. (2) The usual pivoted end brushes t, and split screens for protecting the ends of the brushes when the bottles are inserted thereon, are fitted on a ring s which is connected to and rotates with the rotating frame g. The frame g is driven by a pair of friction disks i engaging worm gear k. The split screens are rotated by known means into line with the brushes so as to receive the mouths of the bottles prior to their engaging the brushes. The advancing movement of the bottles over the brushes pushes the screens aside to their inactive position.
