Abstract
5736. Stoltzenberg, H. March 6. Betaine salts.-The following compounds of betaine with nitrous, nitric, chloric, perchloric, chromic, picric, and permanganic acids are desribed for use in explosives: two compounds with nitrous acid, namely one obtained by passing nitrous anhydride into an ice-cooled solution of betaine in methyl alcohol, and another obtained by the action of nitrous anhydride on betaine for a long time under pressure; the nitrate obtained as white lustrous plates by evaporating betaine down with nitric acid or by repeatedly evaporating the hydrochloride with concentrated nitric acid in excess; the dichromate crystallized by evaporating betaine down with chromic acid in aqueous solution; the chlorate obtained as white crystals by evaporating betaine down with chloric acid; and the permanganate crystallized by evaporating betaine down with permanganic acid.
