Abstract

28,083. Wigram, A. D. Dec. 5. Screw propellers.-A hollow screw-propeller blade is formed of thin surface parts welded together and to internal strengthening struts or ribs. The boss mav be welded to the blades. Plates A, B, Figs. 1 and 3, are pressed to shape and welded together to form a blade, the parts A<1>, B<1> forming the shell of the propeller boss C, which is formed with a tapered hole C'. The extensions A<1> are either welded to the boss or held up by the driving-bolts D passing- through the annular space between the two cylindrical members of the boss. Between the surface parts A, B of the blades are ribs E which are welded thereto, a series of holes A<2> situated over the rib rendering the process of welding possible. The adjacent edges of the plates A, B may be welded to a strip F, Fig. 5. The strengthening-struts may be made of wire or tubular, and there may be more than two surface plates.
