Abstract
1633. Feeny, C. J., [Bemberg Akt.-Ges., I. P.]. Jan. 20. Zigzag roller type.- Apparatus for leaching and rinsing fabrics by steam with recovery of the lye &c., is provided with rollers cooled with water &c., so that after every passage of the fabric over them, the steam is condensed on the cooled fabric, and the lyes, acids, salt solutions, &c. contained in it are rinsed out. The steam chamber, Fig. 1, has an inclined bottom 2, vertical walls 3, 4, which dip into liquids contained in tanks 5, 6, and a cover 7. Of the contained guide-rollers 8, 9, the lower ones 9 are internally cooled by water &c. The fabric enters through the first liquid-seal 5, and passes up and down over the guide-rollers 8, 9, leaving the steam - chamber through the second seal 6 and passing between squeezing-rollers 12, 13, which remove surplus liquid. The lye, washed out by the condensed steam, drips on to the bottom of the chamber and collects in the first seal 5, wipers being provided to facilitate the dripping. The lye is thus recovered highly concentrated. In a modification, Fig. 3, the cooling-rollers are arranged in a vertical plane, and the fabric leaves the chamber through a roller seal 16, 16', the upper roller 16 being packed by a slide 18 ground to it and moving steam-tight in a guide 19. Knife-like stripper blades 17 are provided. The cooling-water &c. in this case flows over the cooling-rollers 9 from a pipe 25, or a separate pipe 25 may be provided for each roller 9. In the first form of apparatus, the fabric may enter and leave the chamber through slits in its walls, instead of liquid seals, if the pressure of the steam is kept a little above atmospheric; intermediate vertical walls are provided which approach the bottom of the steam-chamber and the rollers, and the steam can thus be caused to travel in the same path as the fabric, in counter current thereto. In a further modification, Fig. 6, the cooling-rollers 35 are placed outside the chamber 1. Internally cooled cheeks 36 embrace the rollers 35, and a counterweighted squeezing-roller 37 may be arranged above each roller 35. Instead of being placed in a vertical plane, the rollers 35 may be arranged beside each other or below the steam-chamber. It being desirable to introduce the fabric as dry as possible into the steam-chamber, it is suitably fed in and withdrawn through pairs of cooling and squeezing rollers 47, 48, Fig. 8, thereby avoiding saturation from liquid seals. Each squeezing-roller 48 is provided with a slide similar to the slide 18, Fig. 3, and an overflow pipe 54 leads from the trough 53 of each cooling-roller 47 to that of the roller below it.
