Abstract

Battery lamps.-In a miner's lamp, a cover a which screws into the top of the battery case b is secured by a latch u, pivoted on the rim of the case b so that it can turn outward horizontally; when turned in, a part w of the latch engages over a rim on the cover a, so that this can still be rotated to some extent, to switch the light on or off. The latch is secured in its inner position by a lead rivet or by a bolt x, which can be released by a magnet, or by both of these means. The cover a carries a number of bars z, fixed at their upper ends to a metal top c, and surrounding a glass cylinder g, which is clamped between the top c and a metal disk h, screwed into the cover. The disk h is formed with a threaded central flange k for the attachment of a metal lamp-holder l, provided with a central spring contact n, which is connected to an annular spring p, fixed to a washer o of vulcanized fibre or the like underneath the disk h. The spring abuts against a battery terminal q when the cover is screwed home, a quadrantal or circular spring r fixed to the cover engaging the other terminal s. The glass cylinder g is closed airtight by two reflectors e, f clamped against its ends.
