Abstract

13,712. Townsend, A. P., and Austin, J. T. June 12. [Cognate Application, 17,553/12.] Hubs.-Two flanged sleeves 9, 10, Fig. 1, are pressed from sheet-metal blanks in such a manner that each spoke flange 2, 3 is of double thickness and encloses a strengthening metal ring d which is tapped to receive the spoke ends, the sleeves being telescoped and held non- rotatably by the hole 12 and depression 13, or butted together on an inner tube 15, Fig. 10, and secured by turning over lugs on the end thereof. The ends of the hub may be adapted to receive ball cups. In forming each flanged sleeve, a disk is first pressed to the cup shape shown in Fig. 5, the ring d is placed on the bottom 4 which is of a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the hub flanges, and the metal is then drawn in over the ring. When adapted to receive ball races, the depression in the bottom of the cup is elongated as in Fig. 16 to form the sleeve part, the ring d is placed in position and secured, and then the ball race e which is secured by turning-over the end 18 of the cup.
