Abstract

8412. Marks, E. C. R., [Gault Brazing and Manufacturing Co., F. W.]. April 9. Atmospheric gas burners. - Relates to gas burners of the type in which the burner mouth 10, Fig. 3, is situated within a cylinder 9 and is provided with one or more openings 19 in its side directed towards the side of the cylinder 9, one or more openings 18 in its top directly above the openings 19, and one or more openings 12, 14 in its top for directing the gaseous mixture into the cylinder 9. According to the invention, the openings 18 in the top are directed diagonally towards the side of the cylinder 9, the burner mouth is of larger cross-sectional area than the mixing- tube, and the cylinder 9 extends far enough beyond the burner mouth to contain the diagonal streams of gas, so that, if the main column of gaseous mixture emitted through the top of the burner mouth should be accidentally extinguished, it is re-ignited from the small flames at the apertures 19 by the slanting jets 18. Gas is supplied to the mixing-chamber 1, Fig. 1, through a pipe 3 on one side, atmospheric air through a pipe 2 on the opposite side, and compressed air through a nozzle 5, and the gaseous mixture passes direct to the burner mouth, when only one is employed, and through a distributing chamber 6 and flexible pipes 7, 8 when more than one burner is employed.
