Dirt and the like, excluding; plug cocks; actuating.-The spouts of domestic water taps, milk-cart taps, &c. are enclosed, to prevent contamination by dirt &c., in a shield formed by a flange 3, Fig. 2, on the tap casing and single or double doors 6, 6<a> hinged thereto and provided with horns 9, 9<a> engaging in slots 8<a>, Fig. 3, in a plate 10 secured to the plug 2, so that on rotation of the plug to supply fluid the doors are both opened up, as shown at the left-hand side of Fig. 2. The plate 10 is adjustably secured to the plug by a split boss tightened up by a tangential screw 11, Fig. 3; a tap stop 10<a> on the plate 10 may coact with a stop 14 on the casing. Figs. 5 and 6 show the doors 6, 6<a> applied to the valve, operated by a thumb-lever 15<a> to which the doors are connected by a bridge-piece 9<d>. A finger-piece 4<e> is provided on the casing to facilitate the operation.
