Abstract

3801. Martin, A., and Martin, E. W. A. Feb. 15. Laying pipes and tubes.-In an apparatus for laying and fixing drain-pipes, and for similar purposes, there is an expanding-mandrel comprising bearing-bars h, connecting links or rods e, guide links f, flanges c, a sliding-bearing g, a sleeve b which is attached to one of the flanges c, and an actuating-rod a, which may be operated by a fly nut i. The expanding- mandrel is employed to bring the insides of two pipes into alinement, and to bring the pipes together a pressure-bar l and a second screwing- up fly-nut k may be employed. The flanges c are provided with slots to act as guides for the links e. One of the bearing-bars may be provided with a spring on its end to lift up one pipe when laying pipes of unequal size together.
