Abstract

28,599. Fast, A. C. Dec. 19. Peeling and washing potatoes &c.-A machine for peeling potatoes &c. comprises an horizontal cylinder 27 roughened on the inside, and a rotating agitator provided with convex members 32 of opposite pitch and with roughened outer surfaces. The whole is removably arranged in a casing 10 provided with semicircular end doors 16, 17 hinged to a central detachable cross-bar 19. The potatoes &c. are inserted through the upper door 16, and are withdrawn through the lower door 17. The agitator comprises two diametrical arms 29 rotating on central pins and secured at their ends to longitudinal beaters 32 formed of sheet metal bent to a convex shape and sloping in opposite directions. The agitator spindle is driven from a handle 34 through spur multiplying-gear, the handle being oscillated through a range which is limited by the engagement of a loose arm 43 with spring buffers 45. The gearing is enclosed in a casing 41, and the handle may be locked by a catch 46. Water is supplied to the machine through a pipe 26, and the dirty water and peelings escape through an opening 14.
