Abstract

5048. Haaga, S. March 1, 1910, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Movable - abutment type; working-fluid supply.-In a rotary engine of the geared-vane type, two power pistons F<1>, F<2>, rigidly connected by a bar H<1> to an engine shaft W, and two lagging or abutment pistons L<1>, L<2> are arranged to work in a ring cylinder R. The bar H<2> connecting the pistons L', L<2>, is loosely mounted on the shaft, and these pistons are held stationa r y and d accelerated alternately by levers B<1>, B<2> co-operating with a fixed cam - slot K. Each lever B<2> is pivoted on the bar H' and has one end engaging the cam-slot, and the other end engaging a slot d' in the bar H<2>. The cam-slot K and the slots d<1> are so formed that, in an explosion engine, the complete four-stroke cycle is effected by each pair of pistons once every revolution. In the position shown in Fig. 1, the piston L' is stationary, and the piston F' is moving forwards uniformly, suction taking place through the inlet port. At the end of the suction stroke, the piston L' is accelerated and compresses the charge until the position occupied by the pistons F<2>, L<2> is reached. Here a device Z ignites the mixture. The piston L<2> remains stationary, while the piston F<2> moves forwards, and so on. An exhaust port S is provided. The cycle may be completed twice during each revolution, and two concentrically-arranged cylinders R with connected pistons may be used. Two packing-ring segments s<1>, s<2> are provided for the working spaces. They are connected by a ring X, and are revolved with the pistons by lever arms g<2> on the bar H'.
