Axial rolling; rolling tubes; tampering by rolling.-A ball-head machine for rolling tapered tubes has a conical sleeve e and a parallel conical mandrel n, tapering being effected by moving the sleeve and mandrel relatively to the rolls. The tube is moved axially by independent means and does not rotate. The hollow shaft c carrying the rolls d is driven by toothed gearing, and the sleeve e is connected to a nut h engaging a screw and driven by worm gearing. A yoke k freely mounted on the nut carries rods which connect with another yoke to which the mandrel rod n is secured, so that on the rotation of the nut. the sleeve and mandrel move together.
