Abstract
2492. Morse, O. M. July 10, 1909, [Convention date]. Filtering.-To the top of a cyclone separator of ordinary construction is attached a filter consisting of a rotating cylinder of fabric passing through a chamber where it is cleansed by beating. A spindle 21 carries a disk 15 supported on rollers 14. From the edge of the disk 15 hangs a skirt of burlap &c. 17, the lower edge of which is guided between two low walls 18, 19. Outside a part of the skirt 17 is arranged a casing 31, Fig. 2, and at the corresponding position inside the skirt is a partition 30. A chamber is thus formed through which the skirt passes, the openings through which it enters and leaves the chamber being provided with packing- material at their edges. Within the chamber is a rock-shaft 32 bearing whips 33, which beat the fabric when the shaft is rocked by means of a cam 33<1> on a shaft which drives the spindle 21. Dust collecting on the floor of the filtering- chamber is passed to a hole 39 by a sweep 23 carried by the spindle 21. The hole 39 is covered by a valve 39<1> which is opened by the sweep 23.
