Abstract
18,545. Lake, H. W., [Grossman, E.]. Aug. 11. Composite springs; dash-pots; connexions, attachments, and adjustments applicable generally for tensile and compressive springs. - Consists in a wind and dust shield for a motorcar or other vehicle in which the upper section 10 of the screen is hinged at 28, and pivoted at 31 to the pistonrod 32 of a device for holding the section in its vertical or foldeddown position and retarding its movement. This consists of a cylinder 36, in which moves a perforated piston 41 with a flap valve 42. The downward movement of the piston is checked by fluid contained in the cylinder 36, and the upward movement is checked by the spring 40. In order that the screen may be set at any angle, the downward movement of the piston 41 is limited by contact with the cylinder head 39, Fig. 6, of a sleeve 52 which can be screwed up or down on the piston-rod.
