Abstract

1594. Murray, W. J. Jan. 22. Coating webs.-Apparatus for supplying oil or emulsion to wool fibre is combined with the stop-apparatus of a gill-box. The gill-box 1, Fig. 2, has endless belts 1<a> to draw the wool across the gill-box, and the belts are driven by a shaft (not shown) carrying the usual fast and loose belt pulleys, the belt being controlled by a belt-shifter 6, Fig. 3. The belt-shifter is connected by a bell-crank lever 7 to an operating- rod 8 at the side of the machine. The oil or emulsion containing tank 10 is fitted with a row of plug cocks 25, Fig. 4, the outlet from each plug cock being controlled by a regulator .valve 27. The plug cock handles are connected by links 16 to crank arms 15 on a rock-shaft 13, which is connected by linkage 19 to the beltshifter rod 8 so that .the feed of the wool and of the liquid are simultaneously controlled. The outlets 28 from the plug cocks open into a trough 21 formed with inclined sides and a vertical - walled opening 22 serving as outlet. This slot-like opening is designed so that the viscous oil or emulsion is retained therein without running out, the wool being lubricated by contact with the oil in the opening as it is drawn under the trough.
