Abstract

24,325. Albion, I., and Parker, W. R. Nov. 12. Fire-bricks are made by grinding refuse material consisting of old or broken fire-bricks to a fine powder in a mortar pan, and adding ground fireclay and fine sand in the proportions of about 80 parts by volume of refuse material, 10 parts of fresh fire-clay, and 10 parts of sand. The mass is mixed with water until it is of the consistency of stiff paste, and is then moulded into bricks, (preferably by hand, but if by machinery without great pressure), dried, and finally burnt in a kiln.
