3971. Holmes, J. H. Feb. 21. Mounting and securing articles upon shafts.- Means for attaching a body to its supporting or carrying member, shown applied to ball bearings, but generally applicable, comprises a closely-fitting dished or coned washer which is flattened to cause it to grip the supporting-member. As shown in Fig. 2, the washers 6, 8 are attached to the bearing races 1, 2, by adjustable screws 7, by means of which they may be flattened to secure the races in position on the shaft 4 and in the casing 5 respectively. Instead of screws, internal or external screw collars 9, Fig. 3, may be used. Washers may be arranged upon either side of the body to be secured, being flattened by separate screws &c. or by nuts and bolts passing through the body. When intended to transmit rotary motion &c., the body maybe secured by a key in addition to the washers.
