Axles; springs; undercarriages. - Relates to motor vehicles &c. in which the body and the motor with its accessories are carried by independently supported frames. A double frame a, Fig. 1, supporting on springs upon its lower member the machinery frame a<2>, carries rods c upon which axle pins can slide under control of springs d. The body of the vehicle is carried by a frame f, which is supported on the upper part of the frame a by a spring e. The rear axle, Fig. 2, passes through the sides of a similar frame g, and is controlled by springs d, the body frame f being suspended by springs h', and the machinery frame a<2> by springs g'. Fig. 6 shows a steering-axle in which short axles are provided with brackets j<1> carrying rods k upon an axle i fixed to the double frame can slide under control of springs k<1>. A modification is also described in which the body is supported by helical springs and a semi-elliptic spring on an axle from which the machinery frame is suspended by rigid hangers and arranged with or without the springs k<1> shown in Fig. 6. It is stated in the Provisional Specification that a single axle similar to the axle i, j, j<1>, Fig. 6, may be used ; a modification is also described in which the body and machinery frames are suspended from single axles by springs, and helicsl springs, preferably arranged in tubes, may also be placed between the springs and frames.
