Abstract

15,285. O'Brien, A. H., and Nunney, A. H. July 3. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Chairs ; tables. - A collapsible seat or table especially for use in motor-cars and other vehicles is supported on jointed leg members and can be lowered into a well when not required, so that ho part of the mechanism is exposed when it is collapsed. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the seat D of a chair is supported by legs B jointed at their centres and pivoted at A to the sides of an opening in the floor. The legs are provided with notches which are engaged by a locking - bar E supported by a bar E' terminating in a T-piece G which engages in a slot f in a plate H on the underside of the seat. The locking-bar E is operated by a bar d<2>, pivoted to lugs on extensions of the sides of the back-rest d'. A screw d' carrying a spring passes through the centre of the bar d<3>, and fits in a slide d<5> which works in a slot in the bar E'. Stops g are provided to prevent the seat back from falling backwards, and a spring button g<1> to prevent it from moving forwards, unless desired. In the application of the invention to tables, the leg-joints may be increased in number as shown in Fig. 3, and instead of the locking-bar E', plates J, Fig. 3<a>, engaging slots in the legs are employed to keep the latter in extended position. The invention may be applied to garden and operating tables, and to deck seats.
