Abstract
9859. Love, G. R. April 27. Gas retorts. -An inclined retort of tapered form is provided with projections b, d, having horizontal surfaces which rest on the supporting- walls, and projections c, e which support similar retorts or walls above. A tapering mouthpiece g with a sight-hole k and gas off-take r is set at an inclination greater than that of the retort, and is closed by a lid secured by a bridle n and screw o. The end of the screw o is made square where it passes through the lid, so that the latter rotates as the screw is tightened, thus scraping the joint to make a secure closure. The charge is kept from the lower end of the retort by a stop s.
