Abstract
26,625. Koons, J. K. March 16, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Variable-speed and reversing gearing; clutches.- In a variable-speed and reversing gearing, a driving- shaft B, Fig. 4, carries a fixed gear b<7> and loose gears b<4>, b<5>, b<6>, which may be clutched to the shaft in succession by a sliding key b<2> attached to a centrally-sliding rod b<1>. The gear b<7> meshes with a gear d'‹ fast on a second hollow shaft D, which also carries a loose gear d7 adapted to be clutched by a key d<5> attached to a rod d'. The driven mechanism C, Fig. 8, comprises a wheel c<0> rotating upon a bearing-pin c<3>, and with external teeth meshing with the gear b<4> and internal teeth meshing with a wheel c<11> rotating upon an e:centric independently-supported bearing-pin c'‹. The wheel c<11> meshes with the gears b<5> and d<7> simultaneously, and by internal teeth with a wheel c<15>, which is carried upon a third eccentric pin c<17> and meshes with the gear b<6>. Arrangement is made so that only one of the wheels b<4>, b<5>, b<6> for the direct speeds, or the wheel d<7> for the reverse, may drive the mechanism C. The rods b<1>, b<4> are shaped near their ends into circular racks, which are engaged by teeth upon part of the periphery of the same wheel G which is turned by hand. The rod b<1> is locked by a sliding pin h<3> thrown out of engagement by cams g<11>, Fig. 3, on the wheel G. The wheels b<5>, b<6> are provided with annular ribs and corresponding recesses, so that the wheels engage and support one another.
