Field carriages.-To enable guns with long recoil to be fired at high angles of elevation, the trail B is constructed at its front end with two sets of bearings B<1>, B<2> for the axle A', and with means, such as hand-spikes C<2>, for transferring the point of support from one set of bearings to the other. The trail and axle may be locked together in either position by srugs G<1> which are caused to engage flanges H<1>, H<g>, concentric with two bearings B<1>, B', by rotating the axle by the handle H. Chains D<1>, D<2>, or other devices, are emploved for controlling the relative movements of the trail and axle during the changing operation.
