Abstract
7990. Langridge, F. L. April 3. Mattresses.-The longitudinal members of a spring mattress are divided at their centres, and the two parts of each member connected together by a joint or coupling, which can be disconnected to enable the mattress to be folded, the coupling being such as to strengthen the rigidity of the frame. The base of the channel - like coupling 5, Fig. 1, is preferably formed or provided with inclined planes 9, Fig. 5, and the adjacent ends 3, 4 of the longitudinal member 1 so cut away as a leave a small gap 13 when they are secured to the coupling by bolts 6 and nuts 8. The ends 3, 4 are brought close together by tightening the end screws 12, the longitudinal members thereby forming an arch, to which the webbing 11 in tension serves as a tie. The nuts are covered by thin slips of wood &c.
