Abstract

1220. Ive, D. Jan. 21. Hammers, power. - The heads of tilt hammers and the like are fixed on their shafts by a wooden block C, Fig. 1, inserted in the hammer head A and secured by metal wedges E driven, in a direction approximately parallel to the plane of working of the hammer, between the block C and the hammer head, which is provided with a rectangular strengthening-ring D and an ordinary bearing wedge F. The impact of the hammer tends to wedge the head more securely on the shaft.
