Abstract

21,492. Wadkin, J. W., and Jarvis, D. J., [trading as Wadkin & Co.]. Oct. 6. Tools and tool-holders.-Cutters for operating on wood or other materials are provided with a number of adjustable cutting-blades. In one form, as in Fig. 1, which shows a stop-trenching cutter, the two blades A are attached to blocks C, provided with faces slidable in recesses D' in the cutter-head D, and fixed in any position by bolts E. The blocks are arranged so that the blades may be slightly diagonal, and may be adjusted relatively to each other by screws. The blades may be straight, with cutting-edges A' and lips A<2>, may be bent at right-angles, may have circular edges, or may be shaped for mouldings. A routing- tool, as shown in Fig. 4, has three blades, the two F of which are adjustable horizontally by means of slot-and-bolt connections, and the cutter F<1> is slid in the slot G<1> in the cutter-head and is fixed by one of the blades F or by a set-pin impinging on it. Another tool for forming concavities, such as in core boxes, and adapted to fit on the end of an arm. consists of a number of blades which are slid into the slotted or grooved ends of a shallow body and are fixed by set-pins, wedges, or other means. The blades may be arranged at right-angle to the body when the tool is required for surfacing. Fig. 8 shows a similar cutter for forming core boxes with square ends. The cutter-blades K are slid into slots L<1> in the spindles L, which pass into holes M' in the body and are held in position by pins N. The body is placed over the reduced end of the arm P and fixed by a nut p<3>, the pin P<1> at the end of the arm fitting in a hole 0 in the body. In the form of cutter illustrated in Fig. 10, blocks R, in the jaws of which the cutter-blades S are fixed by bolts S', are pivoted by bolts R<1> to the face Q<2> of the bead, which is fixed to the cutter spindle by a set-pin screwed into the hole Q<1>. To adjust the blades to or from each other, the blocks R are turned about their pivots and then fixed in position by nuts U and bolts T which pass through segmental slots in the bead, any tendency to fly back being overcome by wedge-shaped faces R'.
