Abstract

20,715. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. Sept. 26. Electromagnets.-A strip of insulating-material is folded and placed between the convolutions of edge-wound conductors for magnet coils &c. The strip 10 of insulating-material may consist of paper, book muslin, &c., and is folded lengthwise after being provided with a number of transverse cuts on each edge as shown in Fig. 2, the cuts 12, 13 on opposite sides being preferably staggered with respect to each other ; or the edges of the strips 10 may be otherwise weakened. A thread 11 may be placed in the fold of the strip, and may be cemented in position. As shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the strip 10 may be wound round a curved surface to separate two turns of a conductor, the staggered arrangement of the cuts 12, 13 ensuring at least one thickness of insulating-material between the convolutions. The strip is drawn between the convolutions with the fold towards the centre, the outer edges being expanded according to the degree of curvature. The convolutions are then pressed together and coated with insulating-compound &c. as required.
