Abstract

16,142. Williams, L. W., and Williams, O. R. July 21. Points and switches are operated by a handle which engages a bell - crank lever controlled by a spring. Fig. 3 shows one form of the invention, in which the switch handle D moving in the slot A<1> of the framing, engages the free end a<1> of the bellcrank lever pivoted at b. Two boxes, situated below the ground level, are cast on to the framing A, one carrying the handle pivot b<1> and the other a helical or similar spring, coiled around the pivot b, which bears against the end a of the bell-crank lever which is connected to the operating-bar. A modified arrangement is shown in Fig. 4, where the handle operates the frame A by working in the slot A'. The frame A communicates motion to the sliding frame F, working in the chamber A<2>, through the medium of the slot E<1>, which engages an antifriction ring F<1> on the top of a vertical pin F<2> connected to the frame F. The coiled spring C, which abuts against collars on the frame F, is compressed by one of the pins f<1> on the rod a which work in the slots f<2> in the frame F, when the points are run through trailing- ways, and by its reaction re-sets the points without disturbing the switch-handle.
