Abstract

4210. Daniels, J. van T. Feb. 19. Massage.-The contact-plate i is carried by a stem h adjustably secured to the frame a of the machine, and is vibrated by means of an eccentric g driven by a belt from a pulley d<1>, on the axle of which is a pinion e gearing with a wheel d turned by a handle c, the machine being held by a handle b. In a modification, the frame and handle are in one piece, and the eccentric g is driven by spur-gearing from the axle of the wheel d'. A lever carrying an adjustable weight may be used instead of the eccentric g, and a roller instead of the plate i, or two discs or wheels having openings and secured together by a nut so that the relative position of the holes can be altered, may be used. When the vibrations are required to be soft, an inverted india-rubber or other flexible cup is attached to the stem h instead of a roller or plate i. The machine may be driven by a spring motor or other power. Reference is made to Specification No. 23,852, A.D. 1903.
