Abstract

14,880. Shippobottam, P. July 4. Coupling, arrangements for ; tow i n g - arrangements for.-A detachable coupling or towing rod for motor and other cycles and other vehicles is shown connecting two bicycles. A tube b carries a leather or other disc b<2>, and can slide in a casing a under the influence of springs f, f<1>, the former of which is held in position by a nut f<2>. The tube b is connected to a tube or rod c by a screw-tbreaded socket d, or by a thumb-screw passing through the ends of the two parts. The casing a may be joined to the saddle pillar of one bicycle by a clip h, to which it is connected by pins k, k<1> to provide for lateral and vertical movement ; and the tube or rod c can be similarly connected to a clip m, which is fixed to the steering-head of the other bicycle and is shaped to permit of the free movement of the brake rod. The rod or tube c is sometimes connected, by a link and horizontal and vertical pin joints, to a plate bolted to the saddle lug of the front bicycle ; while the casing a is similarly linked to a clip on the steering-head of the other bicycle. The rod may be divided and carried in a receptacle provided for the purpose on one of the vehicles. Two or more rods may be arranged laterally or crosswise between two vehicles so that they can travel side by side. According to the Provisional Specification, the device may be used for connecting trailers to cycles &c.
