Abstract

9543. Emmet, W. Le R. Dec. 3, A.D. 1902, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Steam &c. turbines.- The turbine casing is made in sections, and has an upper part 44, Fig. 1, containing a dynamo, not shown, two ring sections 14, 10 separated by a diaphragm 15, a n d a lower part 3, forming a condenser chamber and provided with a connection 8 for the condenser. The driving - shaft 34 carries two vane wheels 35, 26, each containing several rings of graduated vanes 25, which intermesh with an interrupted upper series of guideblades 22, mounted on plates 30, and with a continuous lower series of f guide - blades mounted on a ring 10, respectively. A pipe 43 supplies motive fluid to a series of chambers 40, each having a set of nozzles corresponding to one of the upper sets of guide-blades, and controlled by valves 42. The intermediate chamber 46 or steam chest has a metal ring 53, to collect the water of condensation, which passes to the condenser chamber through valve-controlled passages, not shown. Steam from the intermediate chamber passes through ports 18, as indicated in Fig. 7 in developed section, to the lower sets of nozzles 67, the supply being controlled by hand-actuated valves 50. The nozzles are in sets of eight, and are separated by draining-passages 71.
