Abstract

Signals, electric.-Two or more kinds of electric disturbances are generated, and a distant receiver, which has two or more elements severally responsive to the different disturbances, is dependent for operation upon the resultant action of such elements ; a high degree of selection may thus be obtained. Figs. 1 and 2 show a simple arrangement, in which Fig. 1 shows a transmitter and Fig. 2 a receiver. Coils S<1>, S<2> are connected to earth at E, and to elevated terminals D<1>, D<2>. The coils are excited by primaries P', P<2>, in which circuits are arranged inductances L', L<2>, condensers C', C<2>, and a circuit-breaker D. The receiver comprises coils s', s<2>, sensitive devices a<1>, a<2>, batteries b<1>, b<2>, adjustable resistances r<1>, r<2>, and sensitive relays R<1>, R<2>. The operating or controlling relay R<3>, is only affected when both the relays R<1>, R<2> are affected simultaneously. Instead of having a double or multiple transmitter, it may be arranged to produce certain successions of waves &c., and the relays are only affected when such a succession is received. In a modified arrangement, synchronously-rotating contact-breakers are employed at each station.
