Abstract

5943. Stampacchia, L. March 18. Drawing.-Relates to apparatus for making deep-drawn articles from thin metallic plates or sheets. The metal plates are first cupped in the usual manner, and are then drawn through dies constructed as shown. The cupped plate is pressed into a conical die A by an annular punch Q, and is then drawn through by a punch P. A die B below the die A reduces the diameter still further, and gives a finish to the surface. Spring catches E strip the drawn article from the punch. The drawing operation may be repeated through a similar smaller set of dies. The punch P has a central passage for the escape of air. The die A is formed concave at a and convex at a<2>, the radii being suited to the metal. The dies are cut away where not required to be in contact with the article, in order to avoid friction.
