Abstract

2331. Guttridge, T. H. R. Jan. 28. Bricks, building - blocks, and slabs. - Ashes, clinkers, and refuse from dust destructors are ground and mixed with cement, oxide of iron, and water containing soluble glass, and the mixture is moulded into lintels, corbels, slabs, steps, and building-blocks which are hardened in a drying-shed. Sand or ground beach shingle may be substituted for a portion of the ground rubbish. Bricks made of the mixture may be glazed, or may have roughened glass facing-plates attached to them by a mixture of Portland cement and soluble glass. The Provisional Specification states that the blocks may be made of concrete, faced or covered with a mixture of ashes, clinkers, sand, gravel, oxide o f iron, and cement.
