Moulding fuel and starch. -Relates to presses for moulding dry materials, such as coal dust and starch, which are exposed successively to varying pressures in the same mould. The mould b<2> is detachably mounted in the intermittently-rotating disc f<4>, and rests during the moulding operation between the dies e<5>, d<3>, which have cylinders d<3>, d' with pistons, the rod of the former being connected to the lower arm of a lever o<3> oscillated from the shaft n and mounted upon an eccentric o' fast on the shaft n<1>, which is driven from the shaft n by a train of wheels. The piston-rod of the cylinder d<4> is connected to the upper arm of the lever o<3> by pivoted links o<4>, o<6>, &c. The cylinders d<2>, d<4> are connected to the hydraulic accumulator K, the piston of which is linked to the pivoted lever b<2> loaded with weights a<1>, a<2>, the latter being adjusted by nuts b<5> so that the weight a' is lifted some distance when the piston a ascends before being lifted itself. When the lever o<3> is oscillated and the dies begin to close on the mould, the pressure is governed by the weight a', but as the stroke is continued the weights a', a<2> control the pressure. The plunger n<4> ejects the finished articles, when the disc f<4> has been rotated to bring the mould in line with it, and delivers them to an endless band.
