Abstract

17,749. Lewes, V. B. July 28. Gas-producers.-A mixture of carbon monoxide, hydrogen, and methane is produced by injecting tar or other hydrocarbon by means of steam into a mass of incandescent fuel; after purification, the gas is enriched by passing it through an acetylene generator. The producer 1 is of the form shown in vertical section. About half-way up it is furnished with a water-cooled ring 6, with injectors 7, through which the tar or other hydrocarbon is injected by means of steam ; it is also fitted with air-supply pipes 5, 5a, and 5b, and with one or more steam-supply pipes 8.
