Abstract
10,658. Thiel, F. C. April 29. Roasting coffee &c.-Relates to the construction of an apparatus for roasting coffee and other vegetable substances. The material to be roasted is placed in a spherical vessel F through a sliding door H. The vessel F is mounted on trunnions T, T' in a ring E mounted on axles D and D' and rotated by means of a crank handle M. A gear ring R' on the vessel F gears with a fixed ring R secured to the axle D'. The axles D and D<1> work in bearings at the bottom of slots b, b in the sides of a heating-box A, and are carried by the ends of a bail K pivoted to the outside of the box A in such a way that the vessel F can be swung out of the box A on the said bail. The box A is closed by a removable funnel not shown in Fig. 1. The gearing described causes the vessel F to rotate simultaneously around two axes, to equalize the effects of the heating upon the charge of coffee or the like.
