1677. Zobel, L. Jan. 21. Water-tube &c. boilers; superheaters, steam.-An addition is made to a boiler in such a way that the addition may be used as a supplementary generator, or as a steam superheater. Two arrangements are shown in Figs. 1 and 3 as applied to a water-tube boiler. The upper drum K, Fig. 1, is prolonged at A. The prolongation is connected by tubes B to a chamber C which opens out above by the steam pipe r<1>, and below by the water-tube X, the latter communicating with the lower portion of the header Y. The addition is shown as containing water and therefore employed for generating steam. By means, however, of valves with which the boiler is fitted, the water may be evacuated and the addition used for steam superheating alone. In Fig. 3, the chamber C is shown below and partially around the side of the drum K, being connected to the extension A by tubes B. In a further modification, the chamber C is placed above the drum.
