Obstruction r e - movers.- An obstruction remover for a vehicle comprises a fender - bar, provided on the face with shock absorbing means, connected to a secondary shock absorbing means comprising air cylinders from which the escape of air may be regulated so that the fender bar may be pressed back to contract with the wheel tyres to act as aditional shock absorbing means, the bar being curved at its ends so that if the front wheels are not straight at the time of impact they are turned by the bar into the straight position. The fender bar 24, Fig. 2, is provided on its face with resilient means 28, which may be an inflated tyre, and is carried on piston rods 23 working in cylinders 17. The cylinders 17, Fig. 4, have air escape holes 30 at their front ends and a loosely fitting bearing 21 at the rear end through which the escape of air may be regulated by a gland 22. A spring 27 restores the piston to its normal position after recoil. On impact with a body, the shock is first taken by the cushioning means 28, and if insufficient, the piston rods 23 are forced rearwardly in the cylinders 17, and if the gland 22 does not permit the escape of air, absorbs the shock. If the glands 22 are set to permit a partial escape of air then the fender-bar is forced rearwardly until it contacts with the resilient wheel tyres.
